Last call for the Mario Testino exhibition!
For the first time in Berlin, the Staatliche Museen shows the amazing photographic work by Mario Testino. Mario Testino is one of the most famous living photographers world-wide, famous for his many glamorous shots of supermodels like Kate Moss, celebrities like Madonna, and public figures like Princess Diana.
The exhibition Mario Testino. In your face, which runs until the 26th of July 2015, displays his entire photographic path, through 125 images, focusing on his provocative contrasts.
It's the first time that this project, which is achieved with a Svarovski collaboration, is exposed in Europe, after the preview in 2012 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Following an apparition at Museo de Arte Latinoamericana de Buenos Aires (Malba), the exhibition has been shown at Museu de Arte Brasileira (FAAP) in São Paulo in 2014, too.
The exhibition celebrates Testino's innovation and different styles in the photographic field: his images call to mind elegance, glamour and irreverence at the same time.
Installed on two levels, the intensely colored pictures are presented on black walls, accentuating the contrasts and colors. There are more celebrities and models present than one can count, but the exhibition doesn’t only show Testino’s glossy work for magazine covers or advertising campaigns. Quick snaps of his private endeavors, flashed celebs toasting drinks and other candid moments in black and white, are presented in between his commissioned work.
"In Your Face, for me, represents the most free way of expression", says Testino. "As an image-maker people always want to put you in a box. I believe we are made of many different aspects and not always are we allowed to let all these different aspects show, let alone to live next to each other as they do in this exhibition. This particular hanging style for these photographic works allows all of these different aspects of my curiosity to have a conversation; they not only exist on their own but trigger a reaction when being next to each other".
