MUST SEE: 2 Tons of LEGO: 10 Architects Construct Interactive Micro-City

Using a staggering volume of LEGO bricks, a series of ten famous architecture firms has constructed a series of miniature built environments, deploying them on the High Line in New York City and encouraging the public to play with and reconfigure their work.

Organized by installation artist Olafur Eliasson, The Collectivity Project features contributions from an all-star cast of local and international designers from: James Corner Field Operations, BIG, David M Schwarz Architects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, OMA New York, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Robert A.M. Stern Architects, Selldorf Architects, SHoP and Steven Holl Architects.

The results range from pointy towers and crooked skyscrapers to giant trees and complex landscapes, all created from versatile white bricks that can be added, removed and used interchangeably.

These are also not meant to be finished or stand-alone works – visitors and passersby are encouraged to remake this scaled-down urban landscape according to their own whims, transforming the architecture piece by piece over the coming months.

Already, people have begun the conversion process, creating additions to bridges between the disparate LEGO buildings.

Sitting the shadow of Hudson Yards, a floating mega-block toward one terminus of the elevated park, those interacting with the work are encouraged to draw inspiration from their under-construction surroundings as well the historical hybrid of raised rail and modern pathway that is the High Line itself.

MUST KNOW : Art legend John Baldessari joins Instagram at 83

Instagram is fast becoming a very interesting space for today’s artists. At the end of last week Visionaire broke the news the inimitable American artist John Baldessari has joined the image-driven social platform at the ripe age of 83. Baldessari’s curious fascination with Twitter was mentioned in Randall Wright’s Hockney documentary last year, and now the Californian joins the older generation of artists on Instagram, including Ai Weiwei and Richard Prince.

Best known for his wry, conceptual and playful mix of word and image, for burning a 13 year portfolio of his own paintings at a local crematorium and the colored dots he pastes over faces in found photographs, the towering six-foot-seven Baldessari has cast a shadow on contemporary art that in many circles rivals the likes of Andy Warhol. This is a great opportunity to garner a personal perspective on Baldessari’s work straight from the man himself.

MUST HAVE: Takashi Murakami's Vans Collaboration is Just in Time for Summer

Pop artist Takashi Murakami has teamed up with Vans to create a series of limited-edition slip-on sneakers emblazoned with his signature flower and skull designs. The cheeky, anime-inspired unisex shoes hit shelves on June 27.

It's certainly not Murakami's first brand collaboration—the artist has worked with everyone from Louis Vuitton to Google—but it is one that's especially dear to his heart.

"Without exaggeration, I have been wearing Vans slip-ons almost every single day. For me, there are no other shoes that are so comfortably wearable that let me focus on producing my artwork," the artist told the New York Times magazine.

In addition to the classic sneakers, Murakami added his artwork to Vans t-shirts, skate decks, and even a set of toddler-size slip-ons, all of which will be available online and in select stores this summer. Adult t-shirts will come in three designs: a flower print, a skull print, and one depicting the goateed artist with his hand on his hip, wearing his own flower design.
