Le Maroc Contemporain @ IMA Paris

November 15, 2014

As I prepared my trip to Paris for Fotofever 2014 at the Caroussel du Louvre, I noticed a new exhibition at the Institut du Monde Arabe. The institute invited Morocco’s contemporary artists in order to highlight this not yet well known contemporary art scene. The exhibitions enables to discover the richness and diversity of the actual moroccan art scene, reflection on its dynamism and legacy. Through a colossal exhibition, 80 artists, plasticians, filmmakers, photographs, sculptors… present their works on 2500 m2. Works that put question about the country’s history, politic, culture and interpellate the public’s conscience. A major retrospective that finally presents a extraordinary creativity.

Spotted : Nadia Bensallam’s video performance, dressed with a half-burqa in the streets of Marrakech. Touhami Ennadre’s pictures, who choosed to expose the sorrow of the US and the violence of the extremism, throught his serie of photographs about 9/11. The movie “Sur la planche”, Leila Kilani’s interpretation of the young generation’s distress.
Looking for something to do during the week-end in Paris for Fotofever ? Don’t hesitate to cross the Seine,  travel accross Morroco’s landscape and, by it means, discover it contemporary art soul.
The Institute also dressed a huge Berber tent where you can eat a wonderful tajine, little moroccan sweet things or drink a real traditional mint thee!
