MAX PINCKERS AND GAUTHIER OUSHOORN - THE CONCLUSION OF A MOVEMENT IN A NEUTRAL DIRECTION
Max Pinckers and Gauthier Oushoorn take us to the very heart of Mumbaikar romantic intrigue in this exhibition. Enriching his research through Bollywood cinema, magazines and even real-life fugitive couples, the photographer Max Pinckers has produced a series devoted to Indian love. By combining reporting and fiction, this ritualised, stereotyped, thwarted, illicit and sometimes even tragic love lends the image an almost pictorial treatment. Combined with sculptor Gauthier Oushoorn’s abstract work, the ensemble attains a new suggestive and sensual spark.
STEPHAN VANFLETEREN. MMXIV - LES DIABLES / DE DUIVELS
Far from the frenzy of matches, training sessions and dressing rooms, or indeed from the delicate perfume of beer and frikandels, Stephan Vanfleteren presents a set of portraits of the 26 players in Belgium’s national football team. In this black and white series, with half-clad, athletic bodies arranged in heroic poses, the photographer celebrates the new gods of the stadium, but also, through the many skin tones of the team, the complex mixture that is modern Belgium. While the World Cup is approaching at a rate of knots, the Red Devils, raised to the status of national symbol, are a focus for all our hopes. Stephan Vanfleteren immortalises each one of them within this climate of nerves and feverish excitement and, with a little help from some stripped down décor, sets them up as veritable icons.
